The island of Lanzarote, located in the Canary Islands, is not only famous for its spectacular volcanic landscapes, but also for its exceptional artistic heritage, largely thanks to César Manrique. The César Manrique Foundation, Created in 1992, is a place where art, nature and culture meet to form a unique harmony.
César Manrique, born in Arrecife in 1919, was a multidisciplinary artist, architect and fervent defender of the environment. His work is deeply rooted in the culture and landscapes of Lanzarote. The FCM is located in Manrique’s former residence in Tahíche, a house built on five volcanic bubbles, integrating nature into architecture in a spectacular way.

Architecture and Nature: A Perfect Symbiosis
The house of Manrique, now the headquarters of the Foundation, is a remarkable example of architecture integrated into the natural landscape. The living and working spaces are nestled among the volcanic formations, creating a harmonious interaction between the artifice and nature. This innovative approach reflects Manrique’s philosophy, who firmly believed that architecture should respect and be inspired by its environment.

Exhibitions and Art Collection
The Foundation houses an impressive collection of works by Manrique, as well as works by other contemporary artists such as Picasso, Miró and Chillida. Permanent and temporary exhibitions offer visitors a deep dive into the creative universe of Manrique and modern art in general. The sculptures and paintings on display testify to Manrique’s influence on contemporary art and his pioneering role in the integration of art and ecology.

A Place of Reflection and Inspiration
The Foundation is not only a museum, but also a place of reflection and inspiration for visitors from all over the world. By browsing the gardens, caves and exhibition rooms, visitors can feel Manrique’s vision: a world where art and nature coexist in perfect harmony. The educational programs and cultural activities organized by the foundation also make it possible to perpetuate Manrique’s heritage by inspiring new generations.

The César Manrique Foundation is a living testimony to the heritage of a man who has seen the beauty and potential of harmony between man and nature. It continues to play an essential role in preserving the culture and environment of Lanzarote, while inspiring millions of visitors each year. By visiting the FCM, we not only discover the work of a great artist, but we enter into a deep dialogue with nature and art, as Manrique had imagined.
